Choosing laser power is the most important decision when buying a fiber laser cutting machine. Too little power and you can't cut your thick jobs; too much and you pay for capacity you never use. This guide uses Leapion's published cutting parameters to help you choose.
"Production" thickness is what the machine cuts reliably all day with good edge quality. "Maximum" is the limit, usually at slow speed and with lower edge quality.
| Laser power | Carbon steel (production) | Stainless (production) | Max CS / SS |
| 1500W | 12 mm | 5 mm | 16 mm / 8 mm |
| 3000W | 18 mm | 8 mm | 25 mm / 12 mm |
| 6000W | 22 mm | 14 mm | 25 mm / 20 mm |
| 12000W | 35 mm | 30 mm | 45 mm / 50 mm |
| 20000W | 50 mm | 35 mm | 80 mm / 100 mm |
Reference values from Leapion laser power parameters. Actual results depend on material quality, gas and settings.
Choose 1500W if most of your work is thin sheet: sign boards, decorative jali, electrical enclosures, kitchen equipment and furniture made from sheet up to about 3 mm stainless or 10 mm mild steel. It is the lowest-cost way into laser cutting.
3000W is the most popular choice for Pakistani fabrication workshops. It handles mild steel up to about 18 mm and stainless up to 8 mm in production, and cuts thin sheet roughly twice as fast as 1500W. For example, Leapion's 3000W parameters show 2 mm stainless steel cut at 24 to 28 m/min with nitrogen.
6000W makes sense when you regularly cut 12 to 22 mm mild steel or 8 to 14 mm stainless, or when you need high output on thin sheet. Faster cutting also means lower cost per part, because labour and electricity are spread over more parts.
These are for heavy industry: structural steel, machinery bases, shipbuilding and large factories cutting 30 mm and thicker plate every day. They also cut medium-thickness sheet very fast with air, which reduces gas cost.
